    ITINERARY

    Itinerary of Cusco and Machu Picchu

    DAY 1: PICK UP FROM THE AIRPORT – CITY TOUR CUSCO

    After your trip on your landing in Cusco. The Big Trips Perú staff will be waiting for you with a sign with your name at the airport or land terminal and we will make your transfer to your respective hotel, providing you with all the necessary information for the beginning of your stay in our city, to later start the city tour.

    ITINERARY

    Departure times:
    9 a.m.  – 2 p. m.
    13:00pm – 18:20pm

    Pick up time 15 minutes before the tour leaving, from your hotel.
    Then You can visit the following tourist places:

    • Qoricancha: (Religious Temple) Main point of the Inca empire.
    • Sacsayhuaman: (Temple of Lightning) It is a majestic place with impressive stone works, some of up to 120 tons.
    • Qenqo: (Labyrinth) It is a religious center dedicated to the worship of the Earth.
    • Puca pucara: (Reddish place) It is a place that was used as a military control center.
    • Tambomachay: (Temple of Water) It is a water worship center.

    DAY 2: SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS – AGUAS CALIENTES (MACHU PICCHU)

    Today, you will begin a fascinating tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At approximately 7:30 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, taking you through the mountains for a unique experience. The first stop will be the Pisac Archaeological Site, located about an hour from Cusco. The ruins of Pisac reveal a system of terraces, domestic structures, and aqueducts. Later, you will explore the Pisac handicraft market before enjoying a buffet lunch in Urubamba, featuring local and national cuisine.

    Next, you’ll visit Ollantaytambo, recognized as the “Best Tourist Town in the World”. This archaeological site features superimposed terraces and finely carved stone blocks. After touring Ollantaytambo, you’ll head to the train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. This 1-hour and 50-minute journey will immerse you in lush landscapes, accompanied by the waters of the Vilcanota River. In Aguas Calientes, we will assist you with your hotel transfer and leave the rest of the day free for you to explore the town, shop, or dine at local restaurants.

    Day 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

    Early in the morning, our guide will meet you at the hotel to take you to the bus station, where you will board a bus to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary. The journey takes 30 minutes. Upon arrival, the tour begins, exploring the Inca citadel for 2:30 to 3 hours. Our guide will share the history and architecture of this world wonder.

    After the tour, you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time for lunch and to explore the charming town. Later, you’ll board the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy, where we will pick you up at the station and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco, concluding our Machu Picchu tour.

    Day 4: Maras And Moray

    We will visit the beautiful salt mines of Maras and the archaeological site of Moray, two of the main attractions near the city of Cusco. Our transportation will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 8:30 AM. We will then continue our trip to Moray, the Inca agricultural research laboratory.

    Afterward, we will go to Maras to visit the famous salt mines, where we will learn about the impressive ingenuity and skill of the Incas in extracting this mineral, known as “The white gold of the Andes”. Afterward, we will return to Cusco, and on the way back, we will visit the textile center of Chinchero.

    Day 5: Rainbow Mountain

    The tour to the Mountain of Seven Colors, also known as Vinicunca, in Cusco is an unforgettable experience. We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:30 AM, the ideal time to begin a two-hour drive south to the district of Cusipata-Paucarpata in the province of Quispicanchi, where we will stop for breakfast.

    After a short rest, our next stop is just 10 minutes away at the first base control, the rural community of Tintinco and Paucarpata. From there, we continue with a 25-minute drive to the second base control in the rural community of Chillihuani. From the base control, we will begin a 1-hour and 40-minute hike to Vinicunca (the Mountain of Seven Colors), one of the most beautiful in the Cusco region.

    From the summit, you will enjoy an incredible view of a range of colors from green to red, giving the mountain its name, Mountain of Seven Colors. It’s an impressive experience to witness the vibrant hues of the mountain and the Andes. The mountain is nearly as high as Everest Base Camp, which stands at 5,389 meters above sea level. In addition to this experience, our tour includes a traditional breakfast and lunch.

    Our tour concludes around 4:00 PM with your arrival at your hotel in Cusco.

    Hiking Level.

    The hiking level for the Rainbow Mountain is categorized from level 1 to 4:

    • Level 1: Easy on flat terrain, without major difficulty.
    • Level 2: Between flat terrain and some slopes.
    • Level 3: Slightly uneven terrain with steeper slopes.
    • Level 4: Steep and rugged terrain.

    Day 6: Humantay Lagoon

    In this program, we will pick you up at 4:00 a.m. to visit one of Cusco’s new tourist circuits: Humantay Lake, a natural attraction located in the town of Soraypampa. Previously, only those on the Salkantay trek would visit it, but it has now become one of the most popular destinations for travelers. A visit to Humantay Lake takes no more than one day. The hike is moderately challenging if you are acclimated to Cusco’s altitude, and the reward for your effort will be the breathtaking view of this turquoise-colored lake.

    CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – HUMANTAY LAKE

    Our transfer will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 4:20 AM to begin our unforgettable one-day tour to Humantay Lake. We will then take a two-and-a-half-hour drive to the town of Mollepata, where we’ll enjoy breakfast.

    After breakfast, we will continue to the town of Soraypampa. From there, we will begin the hike, which takes between one and a half to two hours to reach Humantay Lake. At the lake, we’ll enjoy the scenery and capture unforgettable photos before returning to Mollepata for lunch. After lunch, we will begin our journey back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:45 PM.

    Day 7: Cusco – airport

    Transfer to the airport for your departure to Lima.
